pick and choose

On my way home from work today I was listening to The Majority Report on Air America and the host made an interesting point that seemed worth entertaining. He suggested, in so many words, that conservatives like to pick and choose the values and morals that they’d like to see upheld. He compared the social “hot-buttons” of today such as gay marriage and abortion to past issues like women’s rights and slavery.

His premiss was this: The conservatives of today would have been the same people opposing the issues of yesterday like women’s rights, slavery and segregation. The thing I find most interesting is that conservatives of times past could have used the same “moral rule” to uphold slavery and a women’s lack of rights that they use today—the Bible.

I find comfort in one thing however; this world does not belong to God but rather Satan who is constantly “blinding” the eyes of men.

2 Corinthians 4:1-4 Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we received mercy, we do not lose heart, but we have renounced the things hidden because of shame, not walking in craftiness or adulterating the word of God, but by the manifestation of truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

This is not a “moral” world; it belongs to Satan! Why should we expect morality, and why should it surprise us when “progressive” agendas prevail?
